Becoming Donor Ready
At Addam Donor Bank, we understand that selecting a sperm donor is a meaningful step in your fertility journey. Whether you’re just starting to explore your options or you’re ready to take the next step, we’re here to make the process as seamless and supportive as possible.
This guide outlines what it means to be ‘Donor Ready’, which means you’re ready to submit your donor reservation to our Donor Team. This will cover what you’ll need to do and how to reserve your selected donor through our platform.
What You Need to Know Before Reserving
Cycle Type Eligibility
Donors are approved for specific treatment types. Before proceeding, please ensure your selected donor is suitable for the treatment outlined in your specialist’s plan.
Genetic Testing Requirements
If your selected donor is a known carrier of a genetic condition, you’ll need to either complete Extended Carrier Screening or discuss the risks with your fertility specialist and sign a waiver before making a reservation.
Please speak with your fertility specialist to arrange testing or to discuss the waiver option before submitting your donor request.
State-Specific Donor Access
Due to differing state legislation, donor sperm cannot be transported across state lines. Please ensure the donor you wish to reserve is located in the same state as your fertility clinic.
If you are considering travelling interstate for treatment, this may be possible in some circumstances. Interstate use is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. To explore this option, please contact our team at mydonor@addamdonorbank.com.au, and we will be happy to guide you.
Please note: International Victorian donors are only available to Victorian residents. Interstate travel to access these international Victorian donors is not permitted, as these donors have been specifically imported into Victoria to comply with Victorian Department of Health regulations.
TIMEFRAMES
Before a donor can be reserved through Addam, patients must complete the required Donor Ready steps with the support of their fertility specialist and nursing team. On average, completing these steps takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks.
Once your donor reservation has been submitted and approved, your donor sperm will be shipped to your clinic. Shipping for donor sperm typically takes around two weeks if the vial is already with City Fertility. If your donor is from an International Donor Bank and needs to be shipped by the supplier, the shipping time may be longer.
Please note that a confirmed reservation is required by Day 1 of the patient’s period. If a reservation is not confirmed by this time, treatment may need to be deferred to the next cycle. We cannot guarantee the completion or delivery of orders placed after this point.
Steps to Becoming Donor Ready
Before you are ready to reserve a donor through Addam, your fertility specialist and nursing team must support you through the following ‘Donor Ready’ workup steps:
- Attend Your Fertility Specialist Consultation: Book an appointment with a fertility specialist at City Fertility, Fertility Specialists of WA, or Rainbow Fertility and attend your initial consultation.
- Obtain a Current Treatment Plan: Your specialist will provide a personalised treatment plan tailored to your specific medical and fertility needs.
- Complete Online Registration: Your clinic will send you a registration form. Please ensure it is completed and submitted online.
- Undertake Extended Carrier Screening (ECS): If required, complete this genetic testing and ensure your results are uploaded to your patient file. Alternatively, if you elect not to complete ECS, please confirm you have signed the required waiver with your fertility specialist and it has been uploaded to your patient file.
- Confirm Superannuation Release (if applicable): If using superannuation for payment, ensure approval has been finalised before reserving your donor.
Reserving Your Donor Once You’re Donor Ready
Once you are declared ‘Donor Ready’ by your clinic team, you can now complete the following steps to officially preference and reserve your ideal donor:
- Create an account on Addam using the same email you registered with City Fertility, FSWA, or Rainbow Fertility. This ensures your donor reservation is linked with your treatment.
- Add at least one donor to your matches by clicking the star icon on the donor’s profile.
- Go to your Matches tab and submit a reservation request for your shortlisted donors.
- Select the number of vials you wish to reserve.
- Accept the terms and conditions of the reservation and enter the verification code sent to your email (please check your spam folder).
Once your request has been submitted, the Addam Donor Bank team will be in touch via email within five business days with your outcome.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to reserve donor sperm?
The process of reserving donor sperm can take some time due to the clinical, legal, and counselling requirements involved. These steps are in place to ensure your treatment is safe, well-coordinated, and aligned with your individual circumstances.
Before you can reserve a donor through Addam, your fertility specialist and nursing team will support you through the required Donor Ready steps. On average, completing these steps takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks.

Important note for self imports
Please note that self-imports may take longer to process than selecting a donor from Addam. This is due to the additional compliance and regulatory checks that must be completed before donor sperm can be approved for import into Australia.
Donors available through Addam have already completed these compliance requirements, which can help reduce delays and support a smoother coordination process.
What is the cost of donor sperm?
For a full treatment fee estimate, including donor sperm pricing, please contact your City Fertility, Fertility Specialists of WA, or Rainbow Fertility clinic.
Specific donor sperm fees are as follows:
-
Local donor fee: $1,650
-
International donor fee: $2,650
How many vials can I reserve?
You can reserve up to 2 vials at a time from your selected donor. 1 vial is used for 1 cycle. If you would like guidance on the number of vials to reserve, we recommend consulting your fertility specialist.
You can reserve multiple vials from the same donor (subject to availability), which may be beneficial if you’re planning future treatments or would like siblings to use the same donor.
It is also important to note that you can only hold one reservation (i.e., one donor) at a time.
How is treatment co-ordinated?
At City Fertility, Fertility Specialists of WA, or Rainbow Fertility, your fertility specialist manages your medical care and treatment plan. Donor selection and reservations are coordinated through our dedicated donor program, Addam Donor Bank.
Our donor coordinators will support you through the donor search and reservation process, while your specialist and nursing team continue to focus on your overall treatment. This ensures you receive expert care.
When will my donor sperm arrive at my clinic?
Once payment for your reservation has been confirmed by the Donor Team, please allow up to 10 business days for your reservation to be processed and arrive at your clinic. Your reservation must be located in your clinic prior to Day 1 of your cycle.
What is the difference between overseas vs local donors?
Overseas donors: Donors are imported by Addam Donor Bank from our partners.
Local donors: Donors are recruited through the Sperm Donors Australia recruitment program.
All sperm is stored at Addam Donor Bank, ensuring consistent shipping times for all donors.
What is CMV?
CMV is a member of the herpes family, which includes chicken pox and cold sores. CMV manifests in cold or flu-like symptoms. To find out your CMV status, please contact your Fertility Specialist.
